Endometriosis
Endometriosis is a painful disorder in which endometrial tissue form the uterus spreads in the tubes and to the other parts of the pelvis.
How do I know if I have endometriosis?
The most common symptom of endometriosis is pelvic pain associated with periods. Many women experience cramping pain during periods but the ones who will have endometriosis will experience far more pain than usual. Other symptoms of endometriosis are as follows:
- Painful intercourse. Pain during or after intercourse (sex) is common with endometriosis.
- Pain with bowel movements or urination. You're most likely to experience these symptoms during a menstrual period.
- Excessive bleeding. You may experience occasional heavy menstrual periods or bleeding between periods (intermenstrual bleeding).
- Infertility. Sometimes, endometriosis is first diagnosed in those seeking treatment for infertility.
- Other signs and symptoms. You may experience fatigue, diarrhea, constipation, bloating or nausea, especially during menstrual periods.
There are other conditions as well that can cause pelvic pain and those can be confused with endometriosis, like PID (Pelvic inflammatory disease) or irritable bowel syndrome.
If you feel that your periods are very painful, and you are having severe pain during sex it is better to show you gynaecologist and rule out endometriosis. If you are facing problems in conceiving it is best showing an infertility specialist as soon as possible.
Endometriosis and infertility:
Patients with endometriosis generally face problems in conceiving. The endometrial tissue that goes in the fallopian tubes and the ovaries, it spoils the reproductive health of the women. Endometriosis should be treated as early as possible. If you are facing problems with infertility and have endometriosis, then it is best to meet an infertility specialist at the earliest.
There are a lot of patients with infertility who have conceived, but they will have better success rates in IVF if endometriosis is detected and treated at an early stage.
